This Indenture made this Eight day September Anno Domini one Thousand Seven hundred and Ninety four between William Downing of the parish and County of Accomack in the State of Virginia of the one part & Wm. Beavans Kendall Stockley Caleb Massey Elias Broadwater Joseph Waggamon James Melvin and Richard Bloxom mostly of the same place of the other part Witnesseth that the said Wm Downing for and in consideration of the covenant & conditions hereafter mentioned and expressed and the further consideration of the sum of five shillings current money of Virginia to him paid by the aforesaid Wm Beavans Kendall Stockley Caleb Massey Elias Broadwater Joseph Waggamon James Melvin and Richard Bloxom at and before the ensealing and Delivery hereof The Receipt Whereof is hereby acknowledged have given granted Bargained & Sold and do by these presents give grant Bargain & sell unto the above said Wm Beavans Kendall Stockley Caleb Massey Elias Broadwater Joseph Waggamon James Melvin and Richard Bloxom their heirs and Assigns for ever a certain house and Tenement Lying and being in the parish and County of Accomack aforesaid known by the name of Downings Chappel begining at the Oak a corner Tree binding upon the Lands of Jno Sheperd Ker and at the North West Corner of the said house and running Southward thence Eastwardly thence Northwardly and thence Westwardly to the above said Oak with equal Distance of lines to contain one hundred feet upon each Line To have and to hold the said House or Tenement yard & other premises to the said Wm Beavans Kendall Stockley Caleb Massey Elias Broadwater Joseph Waggamon James Melvin and Richard Bloxom their Heirs & Assigns forever None the less upon Special Trust & Confidence and to the intent that they and their Survivors of them and the trustees for the time being do and shall permit Francis Asbury Bishop of the Methodist Episcopal Church in America and such other persons as he shall from time to time appoint and at all times during his Natural Life and no other person or persons to have and enjoy the free use and benefit of the said premises that the said Francis Asbury and such other persons as he appoints may therein preach and expound Gods Holy Word and after his decease upon further trust and confidence and to the intent that the said Wm Beavans Kendall Stockley Caleb Massey Elias Broadwater Joseph Waggamon James Melvin and Richard Bloxom or the major part of them or the survivors of them & the major part of the trustees of the said premises for the time being shall from time to time and at all times forever hereafter permit such persons as shall be appointed at the yearly Conference of the people called Methodists and no other to have and enjoy the said premises for the purpose aforesaid provided always that the said persons preach no other Doctrine than is contained in Mr. Wesleys notes upon the Testament & four Volumes of Sermons and upon further trust for the time being shall Die or cease to be a member of the Society commonly called Methodists the rest of the said Trustees or of the trustees for the time being as soon as conveniently may be shall and may choose another Trustee or Trustees or order to keep up the number of Seven or Nine for ever -- In Testimony whereof the said Wm Downing hath hereunto Set his hand and Affixed his Seal the Day and date above Written
