This Deed made this 27th Day of January Anno Domini one thousand eight hundred Between Richard Drummond & Nancy his Wife of Norfolk County in the state of Virginia of the one part, and John Grinnalds of Accomack County and State aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth, that the said Richard Drummond for and in Consideration of the sum of Nine hundred & thirty one pounds current money of the State aforesaid in Specie to him in hand paid by the said John Grinnalds the receipt whereof is here by acknowledged hat given granted bargained & sold and Do by these presents give grant bargain sell and confirm unto the said John Grinnalds One hundred & thirty two Acres of land more or less and being in the parish and County of Accomack & State aforesaid and bounded as follows (towit) on the South and South West by the lands of Jno Hickman, on the North West by the lands of Archabald Barnes, On the NC by the lands of George Bundick & on the South East by the head of Metompkin Bay, the aforesd One hundred & thirty two Acres of land late the property of Levin Dix & Bashesha his Wife To have and to hold the said one hundred & thirty two Acres of land more or less together with the improvements thereon and all priviledges and appurtenances thereunto belonging unto him the said John Grinnalds his heirs & assigns forever to the only proper use benefit & behoof of the said John Grinnalds his heirs & assigns forever, and to or for no other use Interest or purpose whatever, and the said Richard Drummond & Nancy his Wife do hereby for themselves their heirs, Executors and administrators Covenant and agree to and with the said John Grinnalds, his heirs & assigns forever that he or they, the before mentioned and bargained One hundred tirty two Acres of land together with the Appurtenances unto him the Said John Grinnalds his heirs & assigns forever against the lawfull Claim title or Interest of all persons claiming from by or under him the said Richard Drummond will Warrent and forever defend by these presents In Testimony whereof the said Richard Drummond hat set his hand and affixed his Seal the day & Year first above written

The Commonwealth of Virginia to Wm Downing Thomas Fletcher & Walter Bayne Gentlemen justices of Accomack County, Greetings Whereas Richard Drummond an Ann his wife have by their certain indenture of bargain and Sale, bearing date the 27th day of January in the year of our lord one thousand Eight hundred Sold and conveyed unto John Grinnalds with the appurtenances lying and being in the County of Accomack and Bounded to wit on the south & Southwest by the line of John Hickman on the north west by Archibald Barnes & on the NE by the lands of George Bundick the South East by the head of Metomkin Bay containing One hundred and thirty two Acres of land and whereas the said Ann Drummond cannot conveniently travel to our District court to be holden at Accomack courthouse to make acknowledgement of the Said indenture therefor we do give unto you or any two or more of you power to receive the acknowledgement of the said indenture, therefore we do five unto you or any two or more of you power to receive the acknowledgement which the Said Ann Drummond shall be willing to make before you of the conveyance aforesaid contained in said indenture which is hereto annexed and we do therefore command you that you do personally go to the sd Ann Drummond and examine her privily and appart from her said husband Richard Drummond whether she doth the same freely and Voluntarily without his persuasions or threats, and whether she be willing that the same should be recorded in our said district Court, and receive her acknowledgement of the same, and when you have examined and Received her alcnowledment as aforesaid, that you distinctly and openly certify to us thereof in our said court under your Seals Sending them there the Said indenture and their writ Witness Edmund Bayly Clerk of our said Court, at the Courthouse, the 31 day of January 1801 in the 25th Year of the Commonwealth

We the Subscribers in obedience to the Within Commission to us directed have been to the House of thomas Fletcher where the within named where the within named Ann Drummond resides and there examined the said Ann Whether she was Willing the said deed of Indenture Should be recorded among the records of [-----] District Court of Accomack and Northampton and she the said Ann freely Consents to the same and that she does it without the persuasion or threats of her said Husband she being Examined it without the persuasion or threats of her said Husband Separate and appart form her Said Husband given under our hands and seals this the 19th day of Feby 1801

At a District Court held at Accomack courthouse the 15th day of May 1801 this deed from Richard Drummond & Anne his wife to John Grinnalds was partly proved by the Oths of John Custis & thomas Cropper Witnesses thereto
