Indenture made this 27th Day of March Seventeen hundred and Ninety Seven between
Henry Custis and Susanna his wife of Accomack County of the one part and Thomas Wise
of the same place of the other part Witnesseth, That for and Consideration of five
hundred pounds Specie Current money of Virginia in hand paid (the receipt whereof
is hereby acknowledged) they the said Henry Custis and Susanna his wife, have given,
granted, bargained, and Sold and do by these presents give grant bargain and Sell
alien and Confirm, unto him the said Thomas Wise, his heirs and assigns, her the
aforesaid Susannas dower in the plantation of the aforesaid Thomas Wise and her the
said the said Susannas dower in the land adjoining thereto, being the fifty acres
of land willed by Samuel Wise father of the said Thomas to Susanna Wise now the wife
of Thomas Ames, both of which tracts or parcels of land are lying and being in the
Parish of Saint George, and County of Accomack aforesaid and also the following slaves
Bridget, Peter, Abraham, Solomon and George four horses, one Yoke of Oxen, one Cow
and Calf, Six Sheep, Severn hogs, two beds one Cupboard, one Walnut Desk, two pine
tables and all the household furniture as it now Stands at the Mansion house of the
said Thomas, and all kitchen furniture as it stands at the same place, on 70 galen
Still and Worm, all untensels of every kind, now on the said Thomass plantation aforesaid,
and the said Henry Covenents with the said Thomas to find and furnish provisions,
grain, and provinder, for the family and team of the said Thomas, employed on the
said Thomass plantation for the present Year, To have and to hold the lands, Slaves,
and goods and Chateles before named and enumerated, to him the said Thomas Wise his
heirs and assigns forever, to the only proper use benefit and behoof of him the said
the said Thomas Wise his heirs and assigns forever, to the only proper use benefit

or purpose whatsoever, except that at the expiration of four years form the first
day of January last past he the said Thomas is to return the to the said Henry and
Susanna his wife the slaves above named that shall at that time be living all but
two, which shall be the Choice of the said Thomas to Still retain and keep to his
own proper use. And the aforesaid Henry Custis and Susanna his wife, do covenent
and agree to and with the aforesd Thomas Wise that they will warrent and Defend the
Lands above named with the Grist mill and saw mill thereon erected and all and Singular
the rights priviledges and appurtenances, thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining
unto him, the said Thomas Wise and his heirs and assigns, against the Claim of all
and every person claiming by through or under them. In Testimony whereof the parties
to these presents have hereto Set their Seals and Subscribed their names, the day
and year first before written

This Deed form Henry Custis and Susanna his wife to Thomas Wise was acknowledged
y the Said Henry and Susanna as their act and Deed, the said Susanna being first
privily Examined as the Law Directs and Voluntarily Consent thereto and ordered to
be Recorded
