This Indenture made this twelfth day of April in the year one thousand Eight hundred & thirty nine between Benjamin Thomas & Rachel his wife, Henry Somers & Levinia Somers his wife, Henry Crocket & Sally Crockett his wife, Isaac Tawes & Permelia his wife & John Thomas & Permelia, all of Somerset County & State of Maryland of the one part and George Evans of the County & State afsd. of the other part. Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the Sum of Four hundred & sixty five dollars by the said George Evans to the said Thomas & wife, Somers & wife, Crocket & wife, Tawes & wife, and John Thomas & wife, in hand paid at and before the Sealing and delivery of these presents. the receipt of which they do hereby acknowledge the said Benjamin Thomas & his wife, Somers & wife, Crocket & his wife, Tawes & wife, & John Thomas & Permelia his wife haith bargained & sold, aliened & enfeoffed, and by these presents doth give grant, bargain and sell alien enfeoff all their right, title & interest of and into that tract or parcel of land known & called Jones Island Situated lieing and being in Somerset County on the north side of Little Annamessex River, together with ll and Singular the buildings improvements, ways, watercourses, right and appurtenances thereto belonging or in any wise appertaining, and all the Estate, right, title and interest, trust, property, claim and demand whatsoever at Law or in Equity of them the said Thomas & wife, Somers & wife, Crocket & wife, Tawes & wife, and John Thomas & Permelia wife, of, in and to the same. To Have and to Hold the said herein described premises with appurtenances thereunto belonging unto the said George Evans his heirs and assigns forever, and the said Thomas & wife, Somers & wife, Crocket & wife, Tawes & wife, and John Thomas & wife, for themselves , their heirs Executors, admintr., doth covenant, promise, grant and agree to and with the said George Evans that they the said Thomas & wife, Somers & wife, Crocket & wife, Tawes & wife, and John Thomas & wife their heirs and assigns, the sd. tract or parcel of land and premises above described and herein mentioned to be granted, bargained and sold, with the appurtenances unto the said George Evans his heirs & assigns, shall and will warrent and forever defend by these presents against the claims of all persons whomsoever. In Testimony whereofr the said Benjamin Thomas & Rachel his wife, Henry Somers & Levinia his wife, Henry Crocket & Sally Crockett his wife, Isaac Tawes & Permelia hhis wife & John Thomas & Permelia haith hereunto set their hands and Seals the day and year first above written.

State of Maryland, Somerset County to wit: Be it remembered that on this 12th day of April 1839, before the subscribers two Justices of the State of Maryland for Somerset County, personally appeared Benjamin Thomas & Rachel his wife, Henry Somers & Levnia Somers his wife, Henry Crocket & Sally Crockett his wife, Isaac Tawes & Permelia hhis wife & John Thomas & Permelia being known to us, to be the persons who is named & described as being & professing to be the parties to the foregoing deed & do acknowledge the said Indenture of Instrument of writing to be their act & Deed, Also at the same time personally appears Rachel Thomas wife of Benjamin, Levinia wife of Somers, Sally wife of Crocket, Permelia wife of Tawes and Permelia wife of Thomas, they being by us privately examined out if the presence and hearing of their husbands wheather they doth make their acknowledge freely and willingly, said they and the same of their own free will, and that the did it not through fear of ill-will or of gaining their displeasure.
