Parker's Bridge in Somerset County, Maryland

November the 8th 1710 Somerset County

Presentment to your Worships order we the subscriber having made inspection of both roads we do order a road for the convenieny of the inhabitants through Mr. John Parkers pastures that by consent of both parties upon condition that the inhabitants which is James Truet, Richard Penniwell, Wm. Davis, Robert Davis, Andrew Collins do make two sufficient strong gates one of the one side of the pasture and the other side of the pasture upon a bridge and to maintain the said gates at there own cost and charge as long as they use the road through the said pasture and further that they do maintain also the said bridge four years at their own charge from the date here of and then the said Parker to bear his equal part in maintaining the bridge.

The court doth confirm the road according to this report and appoint John Trewett Overseer of the said road.

In 1710 it was found to be more convenient for the local people to travel through John Parker's pastures and it was ordered that the people involved make two pasture gates, one on each side and maintain them at their own cost. Parker was to contribute an equal part of the bridge maintainance. Gail M. Walczyk
