HOUSEHOLD 15

Charles Taylor, son of Charles Taylor and Elizbeth his wife, was born in Accomack Co., VA, circa 1767.  Charles died before 30 March 1829 (Miles 529).

Charles was named as heir in his father's will written on 5 March 1779 and proved 28 April 1779.  An abstract of his father's will reads:

TAYLOR, CHARLES - 5 March 1779 - 28 April 1779 - To wife Elizabeth use of all my land till my son Charles comes to lawful age, & then to my said son Charles.  To wife 1/2 my estate & all the crop that is on the ground this year.  Children John, Elizabeth, Mary, Rebecca, Charles, Leah & William Taylor residual legatees.  Wife & John Kilmon Exrs. Witt: William Young, Jr., Richard Taylor, Mathew Killman.  In order of probate: John Taylor heir at law.

Charles was noted on the 1787 Personal property Tax List. He was charged with the tax on 2 Blacks over 16, 3 Blacks uder 16, 1 horse, mare or mute.  In a column entitled "Notes" was written "Hospital Money" (Yantis-Schreiner 103).

He married twice. He married Tabitha Miles on 18 March 1793 in Accomack Co., VA. The record reads: Charles Taylor to Tabitha Miles on 18 March 1793 (Turman 278). She was the daughter of Parker Miles. Tabitha was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1775. Tabitha died before on 4 June 1806. He married Tabitha Parks on 4 June 1806 in Accomack Co., VA. The record reads: "Charles Taylor to Tabitha Parks on 4 June 1806. William Taylor security." Tabitha was born in Accomack Co., VA, circa 1788. Tabitha was the daughter of John Parks and Nancy Ann Ewell. See the household of John Parks. Tabitha was named as an heir in her father's will. It was probated 27 February 1843 (Will Book 389).

Charles Taylor was paid for Sarah Hinman (Overseers of the Poor). The text reads: "To Charles Taylor (Jobs Island) [for keeping] Sarah Hinman 03.10.00."

In 1800 Charles was living on Jobs Island. (Overseers of the Poor).

Charles made a will on January 1829 in Accomack Co., VA. It was probated 30 March 1829 (Miles 529). An abstract of his will reads:

Taylor, Charles - 6 January 1829 - 30 March 1829 - To son Charles Taylor the west end of my island. To son John Taylor the north end of my land bought of Thomas Wessells starting at Spencer Lewis' line & ... & one horse for which he has to pay $30 to my children Samuel Taylor, Gilly Taylor & Comfort Taylor. To son James 1/2 of my land I bought of Joseph Riggs. To son William Taylor the east end of my Island joining my son Charles Taylor. To son Bagwell Taylor 1/2 of my land I bought of Joseph Riggs. Son Samuel Taylor the southwest end of my land I bought of Thomas Wessells except one acre of it which is to go to my son-in-law Dennis Thorns & daughter Polly Thorns during their life time, it being the place they now live on, but at their death it is to go to my son Samuel Taylor. Son Charles Taylor to pay my son Gillett Taylor $20. Son John Taylor to pay my son Gillett Taylor $20. Son William Taylor to pay my son Gillett Taylor $20. Son James Taylor to pay my son Gillett Taylor $10. The above to be paid to Gillett Taylor when he arrives to age 21. If James Taylor dies before he is age 21, his land goes to Gillett Taylor. If William, Bagwell or Samuel Taylor dies before they are age 21, then their land goes to Gillett Taylor. To daughter Peggy Ewell ... Thornton mare to my children James, William, Bagwell, Samuel & Comfort. To daughter Nancy Taylor ... I give my Killman canoe, seine & rope to my sons James, William, Bagwell, Samuel, except 1/4 of the seine & rope that I give to my son John. Daughter Comfort ... I give my crops & ... to my children that now live with me. Remainder to my girl children Peggy Ewell, Betsy Middleton, Tabitha Bundick, Rebecca Taylor, Polly Thorns, Patsy Taylor, Nancy Taylor & Comfort Taylor. Friend John Parks Jr. Extr. Witt: Arthur F. Wessells, Jacob Matthews & Meriah [Maria in Probate] White. Thorowgood Taylor & Nathaniel Topping securities."

Charles Taylor and Tabitha Miles had the following children:

1 i. Charles Taylor of Charles was born in Accomack Co., VA, circa 1794. He married Margaret Ann Young on 12 January 1820 in Accomack Co., VA.  The text reads: "Charles Taylor Jr. to marry Peggy Young of Elizabeth on 12 January 1620. George H. Ewell security" (Turman 278).  Margaret was born in Accomack Co., VA, circa 1801.

In Charles Taylor's will on January 1829 in Accomack Co., VA, Charles was named as an heir. It was probated 30 March 1829 (Miles 529).

2 ii. James Taylor was born in Accomack Co., VA, circa 1796.

3 iii. Tabitha Taylor was born in Accomack Co., VA, circa 1800. She married Jabez Bundick of Abbott on 7 January 1819 in Accomack Co., VA.  The text reads: "Jabez Bundick of Abbott to marry Tabitha Taylor of Charles on 7 January 1815. Abbott Bundick Security" (Turman 46).  Jabez was born in Accomack Co., VA, circa 1793.

4 iv. John Taylor was born in Accomack Co., VA, circa 1802. He married Catherine Killmon on 29 March 1827 in Accomack Co., VA (Turman 278). The record reads: "John Taylor of Charles to Catherine Killman of Charles on 29 March 1827. Charles Taylor and Charles Killman security." Catherine was born in Accomack Co., VA, circa 1809. Catherine was the daughter of Charles E. Killmon and Abbe Killmon Killmon.

5 v. Elizabeth Taylor was born in Accomack Co., VA, circa 1803. She married Revell Middleton on 29 October 1821 in Accomack Co., VA (Turman 202). The record reads: "Revell Middleton of Major dec'd to Elizabeth Taylor of Charles on 29 October 1821. Raymond Riley security." Revell was born in Accomack Co., VA, circa 1796.

6 vi. Rebecca Taylor was born in Accomack Co., VA, circa 1805. She married Teackle Taylor (her first cousin) on 27 March 1823 in Accomack Co., VA (Turman 285). The record reads: "Teackle Taylor of William to Rebecca Taylor of Charles on 27 March 1823. Julius Bundick security." Teackle was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1801. Teackle was the son of William Taylor and Tabitha Killmon.

In Charles Taylor's will on January 1829 in Accomack Co., VA, Rebecca was named as an heir. It was probated 30 March 1829 (Miles 529).

Charles Taylor and Tabitha Parks had the following children:

7 vii. Polly Taylor was born in Accomack Co., VA, circa 1808. She married Dennis Thorns on 11 November 1826 in Accomack Co., VA. The record reads: "Dennis Thorns to Polly Taylor of Charles Sr. on 11 November 1826. James Ewell of James security." Dennis was born in Accomack Co., VA, circa 1801. In Charles Taylor's will on January 1829 in Accomack Co., VA, Dennis was named as an heir. It was probated 30 March 1829 (Miles 529).

8 viii. Bagwell Taylor was born in Accomack Co., VA, circa 1814. He married Nancy Justice on 16 October 1839 in Accomack Co., VA. The record reads: "Bagwell Taylor of Tabitha to Nancy Justice of Richard on 16 October 1839. John Taylor and John J. Blackstone securities" (Truman 277). Nancy was born in Accomack Co., VA, circa 1821.

In Charles Taylor's will on January 1829 in Accomack Co., VA, Bagwell was named as an heir. It was probated 30 March 1829 (Miles 529).

9. ix. Nancy Taylor was born circa 1815. She married Thomas Taylor, her first cousin, on 21 March 1834. The record reads: "Thomas Taylor of Tabitha to Nancy Taylor of Charles on 21 March 1834" (Turman 284). Thomas was born circa 1808. Thomas was the son of William Taylor and Tabitha Killmon.

10 x. Patsy Taylor was born in Accomack Co., VA, circa 1815. In Charles Taylor's will on January 1829 in Accomack Co., VA, Patsy was named as an heir. It was probated 30 March 1829 (Miles 529).

11 xi. William Taylor of Charles was born in Accomack Co., VA, circa 1816. He married Ann Young on 25 January 1841 in Accomack Co., VA. The record reads: "William Taylor of Charles to Ann Young of Sally on 25 January 1841 . David Mears and John Finney securities" (Turman 285). Ann was born in Accomack Co., VA, circa 1823.

In Charles Taylor's will on January 1829 in Accomack Co., VA, William was named as an heir. It was probated 30 March 1829 (Miles 529).

12 xii. Samuel Taylor was born in Accomack Co., VA, circa 1820. He married Lavinia Corbin on 29 November 1847 in Accomack Co., Va. The record reads: "Samuel C. Taylor to Lavinia Corbin of Covington on 29 November 1847. John Taylor security" (Turman 284). Lavinia was born in Accomack Co., VA, circa 1824.

In Charles Taylor's will on January 1829 in Accomack Co., VA, Samuel was named as an heir. It was probated 30 March 1829 (Miles 529).

13xiii. Gillett Taylor was born in Accomack Co., VA, circa 1823. He married Elizabeth Barnes circa 1848 in Accomack Co., VA. Elizabeth was born in Accomack Co., VA, circa 1830.

14 xiv. Comfort Taylor was born in Accomack Co., VA, on 9 April 1828.
