Nanny Savage was born in Accomack Co., VA, circa 1756. She married George Savage circa 1774 in Accomack Co., VA. Written on some Bible pages found at the Nabb Research Center (Belote Bible Materials) is the following note:
My grandmother's father was named George Savage and was a brother to Major John Savage's father (Dickey Savage who lived in Modesttown) Mollie Savage's mother was Miss Nanny Crippen.
Whitelaw states: "William Savage [wife Elizabeth] left 100 acres to his son William Hope Savage and the balance to his son George. 1791 - George Savage left 140 acres to his son Zerobabel and to his sister Ann Bunting ... Savage left the balance of his land which must have come from this tract to a son Robert" (1119).
George was born in Accomack Co., VA, circa 1749. George was the son of William Savage and his wife Elizabeth. George died before 27 December 1791 (Nottingham). George made a will on 4 December 1791 in Accomack Co., VA. It was probated (Nottingham). An abstract of his will reads:
SAVAGE, GEORGE - 4 Dec. 1791 - 27 Dec. 1791 - To sister Ann Bunting 40 acres adjcent Henry Wright's plantation To son Zorobabel Savage 100 acres adjcent the above. To eld. son Robert Savage the remainder of my land. 4 daughters Elizabeth, Mary, Sarah & Rachel Savage residual legatees. Brother Richard R. Savage & Jacob Broadwater Exrs. Witt: Ezekiel Young, Thomas Young, Griffin Savage.
Nanny Crippen and George Savage had the following children:
1 i. Zerobabel Savage was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1773. SEE HOUSEHOLD 69
2 ii. Robert Savage was born circa 1776. He married Nancy Kellam on 29 December 1801 in Accomack Co., VA (Turman 249). The marriage record reds: "Robert Savage to marry Nancy Kellam on 20 December 1801. James Ailworth security." Nancy was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1783. Robert Savage was mentioned in court on 4 October 1809 in Accomack Co., VA (Walczyk 71).
Robert made a will on 29 January 1818 in Accomack Co., VA. It was probated (Miles 470). An abstract of his will reads:
SAVAGE, ROBERT - 29 January 1818 - 28 January 1819 - To youngest daughter Mary Anne my grist mill & all the land that I possess at Kegotank, part of it situated on the head of Kegotank Creek & & extending over the main county road where Joshua Broadwater now resides containing 108 acres & also an an anticapated right in a piece of land now in the possession of Mr. Teackle Mason, descending to my 2 children at the death of Teackle Mason by their aunt Hetty Mason. All my personal estate to daughter Mary Anne Savage except ... & excluding slaves Daniel & Betty. My Negro man Ephraim be sold at public sale for the benefit of my daughter Mary Ann Savage. To my eldest daughter Sarah C. Savage the whole of my plantation containing 200 acres, provided Sarah relinquish that which I bought of Richard Dix which belonged to their mother & aunts [Note: Other conditions apply. Both daughters are under age 21.] To brother Zerobabel Savage & my two friends relations John Savage of Griffin & John Savage of Richard Extrs & & my 2 friends & relations John savage of Griffin and John Savage of Richard to be guardians of my 2 daughters. Witt: Samuel Mapp, Crety Mapp & Elizabeth Willett. Prob: Major Bloxom, Zorobabel West & John Gillespie securities.
3 iii. Elizabeth Savage was born circa 1779. She married Benjamin Parks on 16 September 1797 (Turman 220). The record reads: "Parks Benjamin, to Betsy Savage on 16 September 1797." Circa 1802 Elizabeth and Benjamin Parks had George S. Parks in Accomack Co., VA. On 27 February 1809 administration of the estate of Elizabeth Parks was granted to Mr. Massey.
4 iv. Mary Savage was born circa 1787. She married William Phillips circa 1805 in Accomack Co., VA. William was born in Accomack Co., VA, on 13 May 1774 (Mihalyka 218). William was the son of William Phillips and Elizabeth. William died on 18 January 1854 (Mihalyka 218). His stone reads: "William Phillips son of William Phillips 13 May 1774, 18 January 1854 aged 78 years 8 months 5 days." On 3 November 1807 William and Mary had Sarah "Sally" Phillips of William in Accomack Co., VA (Belote Bible Materials). William Phillips of William was the plaintiff in a court case on 4 October 1809 in Accomack Co., VA (Walczyk 71). On 22 December 1809 William and Mary had Nancy C. Phillips in Accomack Co., VA (Belote Bible Materials). On 17 November 1811 William and Mary had John Phillips in Accomack Co., VA (Belote Bible Materials). On 10 March 1814 William and Mary had Elizabeth Phillips of William in Accomack Co., VA (Belote Bible Materials). On 28 August 1816 William and Mary had Levin W. Phillips in Accomack Co., VA ((Belote Bible Materials).
A George Parks chose William Phillips as his guardian on 2 February 1819 (Accomack Court Orders 1817-19:301). An abstract of the text reads: "George Parkes, of Benjamin Parks chose William Phillips for his guardian. John S. Walker and John Turlington were securities."
On 2 April 1819 William and Mary had Susan Phillips in Accomack Co., VA (Belote Bible Materials). On 1 January 1823 William and Mary had George Phillips [of William] in Accomack Co., VA (Belote Bible Materials).
George S. Parks mentions William Phillips in his will in Accomack Co., VA (Miles 415). An abstract of his will reads:
Parks, George S. 3 November 1824 - 28 January 1828 To cousin Sally Evan my Negro Girls Margaret and Mary. To cousin Mary Gillespie Negro boys Daniel & Mary. To cousin Clarissa Savage negro Woman Mary. To cousin Sally Evans the remainder. To cousin Sally Evans the remainder. To Samuel Turlington ... John Phillips Sr. Extr. Witt: John S. Walker & Smith Phillips. Prob: William Phillips, Smith Phillips & Levin S. Joynes securities.
On 3 November 1807 Mary and William Phillips of William had Sarah "Sally" Phillips of William in Accomack Co., VA (Belote Materials).
5 v. Sarah Savage was born in Accomack Co., VA, on 2 February 1788 (Walczyk). Sarah died on 2 October 1807 (71). She married Teackle Mason on 6 August 1807 in Accomack Co., VA (71). Teackle was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1783. Teackle Mason was the defendant in a court case on 4 October 1809 in Accomack Co., VA (Walczyk 71).
Robert Savage mentions Teackle Mason in his will in Accomack Co., VA (Miles 470).
6 vi. Rachel Savage was born circa 1795. She married William Gillespie on 9 June 1813 in Accomack Co., VA (Turman 111). The record reads: "William Gillespie to marry Rachel Savage on 9 June 1913. Isaac Young security." William was born in Accomack Co., VA, circa 1787. On 2 October 1819 William and Rachel had Mary Gillespie in Accomack Co., VA (Belote Bible Materials). Rachel Savage was the plaintiff in a court case on 4 October 1809 in Accomack Co., VA (Walczyk 71).
