WILLIAM BOGGS

William Boggs was born circa 1761.  He was the son of Francis Boggs and Ann his wife.  He married Sarah White circa 1773.  She was the daughter of Nathan White.  William was the brother of Francis.  SEE HOUSEHOLD 12 and for John SEE HOUSEHOLD 13.

William was listed on the personal property Tax List for 1787 (Yantis-Schreiner 98).   The record reads: "Boggs, William, Stephen Moor charged with the tax."

William was listed as the head of a family on the 1800 Census in Accomack Co., VA (Powell 12).  The census reads: "Boggs, William Sen., 1 male 16-26, 2 males 26-45, 1 male 45+, 1 female 0-10, 2 females 45+, 9 slaves."

William wrote his will on 16 April 1810.  It was proved on 26 August 1811.  An abstract of his will reads:

Wife Sarah Boggs & son George & John Bayly Exrs.  To my wife Sarah Boggs during her life or widowhood & at her death to granddaughter Sarah Wise the part [of my land] whereon I now live, it being the same my wife derived by decent from her father Nathan White containing 30 acres.  Also to granddaughter Peggy Wise 1/2 of the lands I purchased of the Holden tract adjoining the aforesaid 30 acres.  Remainder on the Holden tract to my granddaughter Nancy Wise.  If either Peggy or Nancy dies under age or without issue, then the survivor gets their 1/2 & if both die, then to my son George Boggs.  To son George Boggs Negro man Boarded.   To granddaughter Nancy wise Negro girl Comfort & her increase & . . .  To son-in-law George Wise Negro boy Southey & . . .  My Negro boy Moses may remain upon the land given to my granddaughter Peggy Wise & in care of Peggy Wise & that he be treated with tenderness.  Remainder to son George Boggs & the other 1/2 to granddaughters Peggy & Nancy.  Witt: John Finney, Stephen Moore & Thomas W. Finney.

William Boggs and Sarah White hadthe following children:

1 i. Female Boggs was born 1775. She married George Wise before 1805.

2 ii. George Boggs was born circa 1780.
