John Teackle, son of Colonel Thomas Teackle and Ann Upshur, his wife, was born circa 1762. John died before 25 March 1811 (Miles 536).
He married Anne S. Upshur on 17 December 1783 in Northampton Co., VA. She was the daughter Thomas Upshur. The record reads: "John Teackle Jr. to Anne Upshur on 17 December 1783. Griffith Stith security. John Upshur consent as to Anne" (Mihalyka).
Anne was born circa 1761. In 1811 Anne was named as heir in her husband John's will (Miles 536).
In 1815 she had a life interest in land in Craddock Neck, 17 Southwest of the courthouse and at Pungoteague 8 Southwest of the courthouse in Accomack Co., VA in 1815 (Ward 16).
John was named as heir in his father's will (Nottingham). An abstract of the will reads:
TEACKLE, THOMAS - 18 Sept. 1781 - 28 Sept. 1784 - To son John Teackle plantation where I now live including Milboy's 500 acres. To sonThomas Teackle the 200 acres formerly belonging to Col. West, together with part of the 19 acres I purchased of Littleton Major. To son George Teackle plantation purchased of Margaret Teackle on the head of Pungoteague. Wife (no name) & children residual legatees. Wife to have children's estates until they come to age or marry for their support. Abel Upshur & Littleton Upshur Exrs. Not witnessed. Proved by Levin Joynes & Littleton Upshur - p. 52 In order of probate: The Exrs. named in the foregoing will refusing, John Teackle, Jr. & John Boisnard qualified.
John registered to pay taxes in 1787 in Accomack Co., VA (Yantis 103). The record reads: Tecakle, "John Jr. 5 Blacks over 16, 6 Blacks under 16, 7 horses, 50 cattle two wheel carriage."
In 1793 in Accomack Co., VA, John bought 200 acres of land from his uncle, Dr. George Teackle of Colonel Thomas (Whitelaw 812). Whitelaw states: "1777 William Teackle left to his mother Margaret as 'the plantation where James wise lives,' and she as a widow sold to Thomas Teackle. 1784 He left to his son Dr. George Teackle and nine years later he sold to John Teackle Jr. 1811 He (wife Ann) left to his son St. George (W.) and in 1834 he sold to William Mason. "
In the 1795 Procession in Accomack Co., VA, District 11, the boundaries of the lands of John Teackle of Colonel Thomas and George Scarburgh and Solomon Smith were processioned (Processioners Returns 11). The text reads: "Lines between John Teackle & George Scarburgh. Lines between John Teackle & Solomon Smith ..." NOTE: It is not known whether John ever lived on this land. He owned land in Northampton County, Craddock Neck, Pungoteague (District 11) and lots and houses near Margaret's Academy.
John was listed as the head of a family on the 1800 Census in Accomack Co., VA (Powell 44). The text reads: Teackle, John ESQ., "2 males 0-10, 1 male 45+, 2 females )-10, 1 female 10-16, 1 female 16-26, 1 female 26-45, 15 slaves." John was listed as the head of a family in the 1810 Census in Accomack Co., VA (Powell 93). The census reads: "Teackle, John 2 males 0-10, 1 male to 16, 1 male 45+. 1 female 0-10, 2 females to 16, 3 females to 26, 1 female to 45, 18 slaves."
John made a will on 14 February 1811. It was probated (Miles 536). An abstract of his will reads:
John Teackle of Colonel Thomas and Anne S. Upshur had the following children: 2 i. Anne Teackle was born in Northampton Co., VA, circa 1784. Ann was named heir in her father's will (Miles 536). On 4 April 1814 in Accomack Co., VA, Isaac Smith applied for a marriage license bond to marry Anne Teackle and John B. Upshur was security (Turman). She married Isaac Smith on 6 April 1814 in Northampton Co., VA (Mihalyka 101). The record reads: "Isaac Smith son of Isaac and Elizabeth Smith, to marry Ann Teackle daughter of John and Ann Teackle of Accomack County on 6 April 1814. Married by Thos. Davis." Isaac was born in circa 1791.TEACKLE, JOHN JR. 14 February 1811 - 25 March 1811 - Friends Christopher Satchell & John Upshur Extrs. To wife Ann Teackle during her life or widowhood only in case of marriage my plantation on Craddock subject to the education of my son Thomas until he arrives at lawful age. To wife 6 of her choice of my slaves during her life or widowhoond. This is to be considered by Extr. as the dower of Mrs. Teackle against the rest of my estate. To son Thomas Teackle after the death of his mother or marriage my plantation on Craddock & ... To son John Uphur Teackle my land in Northampton County known as Upshur Shire & ... To son George my plantation on Pungoteague which I purchsed of Dr. Teackle. To son George the lots & houses near Margaret Academy including the lot only which Joseph Ames will point out to my extrs to son George ... All my wearing apparel to my 3 sons. To my 5 daughters Ann, Molly, Lavinia, Sally and Susanna the remainder. Sell land joinging Academy & profits to be paid to my 5 daughters as they come to age or get married. To Ann Ball a bond whichis now in my hands being the balance which I had given previous to her father. Mr. John Upshur to be guardian to my son John U. Teackle & Mrs. Teakle to be appointed to my son Thomas. Witt: Margaret T Boisnard, Thomas Walter & John Boisnard. Prob: John Teackle Sr. John Finney, & Mathew Harmanson securities.
3 ii. Thomas Teackle was born in Northampton Co., VA, circa 1786. He was named heir in his father's will (Miles 536).
4 iii. Elizabeth Upshur Teackle was born in Northampton Co., VA, circa 1788. Elizabeth was named heir in her father's will (Miles 536). 5 iv. St. George Teackle was born circa 1791. He was named heir in his father's will (Miles 536). He married Elisha Mears on 9 January 1821 in Accomack Co., VA (Turman 287). The record reads: "George Teaquel of John to Elisha Mears of Elisha on 9 January 1821, James Mears of Elisha security." Elisha was born circa 1803. 6 v. Mary Teackle was born circa 1793. Mary was named heir in her father's will (Miles 536). 7 vi. Lavenia Teackle was born circa 1797. Levenia was named heir in her father's will (Miles 536). She married William Graham on 24 September 1818 in Accomack Co., VA (Turman 113). The record reads: "William Graham to Levenia Teackle of John, dec'd on 24 September 1818. Richard D. Bayly security." William was born circa 1790. 8 vii. Sally Teackle was born circa 1799. Sally was named heir in her father's will (Miles 536). 9 viii. Susanna Teackle was born in Northampton Co., VA, circa 1801. Susanna was named heir in her father's will (Miles 536). She married Francis H. Smith on 4 September 1820 in Accomack Co., VA (Turman 261). The record reads: "Francis H. Smith to Susan B. Teackle of John dec'd. on 4 September 1820. John B. Walker security." Francis was born circa 1795. 10 ix. John Upshur Teackle was born in Northampton Co., VA, circa 1803. John was named heir in his father's will (Miles 536). In 1815 John Upshur Teackle of John resided seaside 13 miles northeast of the courthouse, in Northampton Co., VA (Ward 79). The text reads: "Teackle, John, orphan of Accomack County; sea side; 13 Northeast of the Northampton County Courthouse."
