THOMAS LEATHERBURY

HOUSEHOLD 31

[A62]

Thomas Leatherbury, son of Thomas Leatherbury and Rachel Revell, was born in Accomack Co., VA, circa 1741.  Thomas died before 1 March 1802 (Overseers 128).

In Thomas Leatherbury's will of 27 December 1747 in Accomack Co., VA, Thomas was named as an heir.  It was probated 29 March 1748 (Nottingham).  An abstract of his will reads:

LEATHERBURY, THOMAS - 27 Dec. 1747 - 29 Mar. 1748 - To son Charles Leatherbury all the land from where Findlay's mill stands toward the branch where John Leatherbury now lives, all to the North side of the horse road.  To sons Thomas & John & daughter Elizabeth the profits of all the remainder of my land to bring them up.  To son Thomas negro, wife to have use of him during her widow or as long as she shall keep my children.  What cash I have to be reserved for the law suit concerning the land that is in dispute between Mr. George Holden & I.  Wife & 3 children, John, Thomas & Elizabeth residual legatees.  Wife Rachel, Mr. Thomas Parramore, & Mr. James Rule Exrs.  Witt: Edward Revell, John Leatherbury, William Phinney, Jr. In order of prob: Edward Revell guardian to Charles Leatherbury, Inf't. heir at law to the testator.

On 29 August 1749, three orphan's accounts were recorded by Rachel Leatherbury, guardian to Charles, Thomas and Elizabeth Leatherbury.  Since the above Charles was named heir at law, and there were only three accounts recorded in 1749, the above John Leatherbury is deceased in 1749.   See the children's orphans' accounts.

Thomas was listed on the personal property Tax List for 1787 (Yantis-Schreiner 98).  The record reads: "Leatherbury, Thomas, 1 cow, 7 cattle."

Thomas was mentioned in the settlement of the account of Charles Leatherbury.  An abstract of the text reads: "Noah Belote paid Thomas Leatherbury .00.13.6 out of the account of Charles Leatherbury in his hands" (Will Book 247).  See the Estate of Charles Leatherbury in Account with Noah Belote.

In 1795 in Accomack Co., VA, the boundaries of the lands of Thomas Leatherbury were processioned.  Among the land processioned were: "Lines between Thos Leatherberry & Stephen Turlington.  Lines between Thos Leatherberry & Polly Rodgers.  Lines between Thos Leatherberry & John Hannaford" (Processioners Returns).

George Dunton was paid 01.14.01 for Thomas Leatherbury of Thomas (Overseers 128).  The text reads: "To Geo: Dunton for Thos Leatherburys coffin & 41/2 Yds Muslin, 01.14.01."

It is not known if this Thomas had issue.
