STEPHEN TURLINGTON

HOUSEHOLD 32

Stephen Turlington was born circa 1748.  After an exhaustive search for him in published material this entry is all that could be found:

The Procession of 1795, as it originally reads: "Eleventh District Decr 29th 1795 - Lines between Thos Leatherberry & Stephen Turlington" (Processioners Returns 1796 - 1816).

There are hints that some of the Turlingtons lived in the area at one time.

An Edmund Turlington is named as a witness for the 1775 Procession in District 12.  District 12 is the district north of district 11 which included "12th From Tinleys Mill between the forks of Onancock up to the middle road."  This was the land between the two forks of Onancock Creek.  He was present as a witness for the 1780, 1784 processions (Processioners Returns 1723-1792).  In his will dated 17 November 1786 William Tizeker named Edmund Turlington and Edmund Turlington Sr. heirs.  An abstract of his will reads:

TIZEKER, WILLIAM - 17 Nov. 1786 - 27 Dec. 1786 - To daughter Mary Tizeker all my lands & personal estate, & for want of heirs I give the plantation where I now live to my friend Joseph Hanaford; to my friend George Hanaford the upper part of my plantation containing 145 A; to my friend James Hanaford my land called Linses, all on proviso that my daughter die without issue.  To friend William Hanaford.  To friend William Boggs.  To friend John Hanaford, Jr.  To friend Sarah Savage.  To friend Elizabeth Mahoon.  To friend Edmund Turlington.  To Edmund Turlington, Sr.  Should my daughter die without issue the balance of my estate to be equally divided amongst my friends the children John Hanaford had by his first wife.  Friends Zorobabel Rodgers, Sr., Zorobabel Rodgers, Jr. & John Boggs Exrs.  Zorobabel Rodgers, Sr. guardian of my daughter Mary Tizeker - Witt: William Leatherbury, George Leatherbury." At a Meeting of the Overseers of the Poor March 5th 1798 again David Bowman was paid 4.10£ for . . .Branson Dolby for Eliza Turlington (Overseers of the Poor 96).
