JOHN LEATHERBURY

John Leatherbury was born in Accomack Co., VA, circa 1770.  John died before 25 November 1822 (Miles 325).  The father of this John is unknown.

He married Elizabeth West circa 1795 in Accomack Co., VA.  Elizabeth was born in Accomack Co., VA, circa 1777.

John Leatherbury was mentioned in the 1792 procession.  The text reads: "Feby 10th 1792 ... Henry Custis and John Leatherbury ... the line between Zoro: Rodgers and John Leatherbury ... Southy Millinor and John Leatherbury ... " (Processioners Returns 1723-1792).

In 1795 in Accomack Co., VA, the boundaries of the lands of John Leatherbury were processioned.  Among the lands processioned were: "Lines between John Leatherberry & Polly Rodgers" (Processioners Returns 1796 - 1816).

John made a will on 9 January 1822 in Accomack Co., VA.  It was probated 25 November 1822 (Miles 325).  An abstract of his will reads:

LEATHERBURY, JOHN SR., 9 January 1822 - 25 November 1822 - Wife Betsy half of all my land & all my personal estate during her life or widowhood. & then the whole of my personal Estate to daughter Margaret & grandson Littleton Edward Watson.  If either should die before age 21 or without issue, then 2/3 to the survivor & 1/3 to my son John Leatherbury & if should both die, then the whole to John Leatherbury.  To son John Leatherbery all my lands, half at my wife death or marrige & half at my death.  Witt: John Finney, Henry Custis & George Scarburgh.

John Leatherbury and Elizabeth West had the following children:

2 i. John Leatherbury was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1797.

3 ii. Elizabeth Leatherbury was born circa 1801.  She married Littleton Watson on 8 December 1818 in Accomack Co., VA (Turman).  Littleton was born in Accomack Co., VA, circa 1793.  Circa 1820 Littleton and Elizabeth had Littleton Edward Watson of Littleton in Accomack Co., VA.

4 iii. Margaret Leatherbury was born in Accomack Co., VA, circa 1820.
