WILLIAM KENNEHORN

William Kennahorn was born in Accomack Co., VA, on 20 November 1747.  William died on 30 November 1840.  He was buried in the Kennehorn Grave (Graven Stones 151).  He first married circa 1763.  The name of his first wife is unknown. 

At a Vestry held at Onancock Town April 23rd, 1784, William Kennehorn was paid 300 lbs tobacco for keeping John Jones (Vestry Book 89).

William was listed on the personal property Tax List for 1787 (Yantis-Schreiner 98).  The record reads: "Kennehorn, William, 1 Black over 16, 2 horses, 3 cattle, not tithable."

The Procession of 1795, shows William as a witness (Processioners Returns).

At a Meeting of the Overseers of the Poor March 5th, 1798, William Kennehorn was paid 3.04.£ for George Turner's child for 8 Months at 8/. per month (Overseers of the Poor 96).

William was mentioned in the 1810 census (1800 1810 1820 Census 135).  The text reads: "Kennehorn, William, "1 male to 16, 1 male 45+, 1 female 45+, 4 slaves."

William Kennahorn resided at Pungoteague, 11 miles Southwest, of the courthouse in Accomack Co., VA, in 1815 (Ward 11).

William was mentioned in the 1820 census (1800 1810 1820 Census 135).  The text reads: "Kennahorn, William 1 male 45+, 1 female 45+, 3 slaves."

William was mentioned in the 1840 census (1840 Census 56).  The text reads: "Kinnehorn, William, 1 Male 100+, 1 female 60-70, 4 slaves, 2 engaged in agriculture, Military Service Pensioner, age 91."

He married Delaney Butler on 14 January 1824 in Accomack Co., VA (Turman 158).  The marriage record reads: "William Kennahorn to Delany Butler on 14 January 1824."

Delaney was born circa 1774.  Delaney was listed in the household of William Moore in the 1860 Census in Accomack Co., VA (Crowson 266).  The text reads: "William Moore 47, Farmer, Jane Moore 54, John Moore 21, Farm Laborer, Sarah J. Moore 20, Catherine Moore 18, Rosetta 16, Agnes 14, Elizabeth 76, Delane Kennahorn 86."

William Kennahorn served during the American Revolution and is listed in Nottingham's Soldiers and Sailors of the Eastern Shore of Virginia in the Revolutionary War: " An abstract of the text reads: "Declaration of William Kennahorn age 82 . Enlisted Febrary 1776 in Accomack Co. in the company of Levin Joynes; served for 2 years; discharged at Valley Forge, Pa.  Pension Granted under acts of 1818 and 1820.  His wife Delany age upward of 50. " (Nottingham Stratton 15).  Another abstract reads: "William Kennahorn was a pensioner of the U. S. at the rate of $8.00 per month, a resident of the said county and died therein on 30 November 1840; he left a widow Delany Kennahorn" (Nottingham 64).

There were no known children.
