William Wise Smith was born circa 1772. He was the son of William Smith and Elizabeth Parker by her second husband William Smith. He married Margaret Drummond on 24 December 1807. His father William died intestate in 1774. Letters of Administration on the estate were granted to Elizabeth Smith. On 4 June 1783 William was named as heir in his grandfather’s will. An abstract of his will reads: "SMITH, WILLIAM - 4 June 1783 - 24 Feb. 1784 - To grandson George Smith all my land & marsh I ever owned on Pungoteague Creek in Slutgill Neck. To daughter Elizabeth Boggs. To daughter Peggy Boggs. To son Solomon Smith. To grandson William Smith (under 21). To Henry Trader (under 21). To grandson Smith Aimes. Bal. of estate to be divided between Betty, Peggy, Solomon, William & George. John Arlington & son Solomon Exrs. Witt: John Smith, Levin Boggs."William was listed on the personal property Tax List for 1787 (Yantis-Schreiner 101). The text reads, "William Smith was charged with the tax, 1 horse, mare, or colt, 3 cattle, Notes: coster?"
He was listed in the 1810 Census of St. George Parish on page 56. The 1810 census reads: "William W. Smith, 1 male to 45, 1 female 0-10, 1 female to 26, 3 slaves. He was listed in the 1820 census of St. George Parish on page 50A. The 1820 census reads: William W. Smith 1 male 0-10, 1 male 26 to 45, 2 females 0-10, 2 females 10-16, 1 female 26-45."
William wrote his will on 21 January 1823 It was proved on 30 June 1823 (Miles 496). An abstract of his Will reads:
Francis Boggs Exr. To wife Peggy Smith all my land & personal estate provided she makes no charge for bringing up my children & at her death or marriage my land to my son John W. Smith & if he dies without issue then to daughter Elizer A. D. Smith, Mary H. Smith, Margaret R. Smith, Nancy Smith & my wife being now with child, if it lives it gets equal share with my daughters. At the death or marriage of my widow all my personal estate to my daughters & unborn child. Witt: William W. Rodgers, Levin Moore, & Ezekiel Smith. Prob: William W. Rodgers & George P. Leatherbury securities.
William Smith and Margaret Drummond had the following children:

2 ii. John W. Smith born circa 1810.
3 iii. Mary H, Smith born circa 1813.
4 iv. Margaret R. Smith born circa 1820.
5 v. Isaac Smith born circa 1823.
