INTRODUCTION

District 11, St. George Parish, included the lands from the mouth of Pungoteague Creek at Chesapeake Bay, to the north fork of Pungoteague Creek, to present day Route 718, up the south fork of Onancock Creek and up that creek to the Bay again.  Included in this area are the localities known as Cashville, Crockett Town and Slutkill Neck.

The land was patented in the 1600's by nine people, with the majority of the acreage patented by Edmund Scarburgh for two of his children including what is known as Dahl's Swamp. His descendants were there in 1795. Although not as large as the Scarburgh patents, John Parker also patented lands there known as "Mattapony." His descendants were also there in 1795.

As the years went on and the lands were sold and marriages occurred, names such as Phillips, Boggs, Smith, White, Rogers and Joynes, began to appear in the area. After 1800, names such as Taylor, Killmon and Drummond found there way into the area.

In 1795 there were 40 families living in District 11, with 36 freeholders and 4 renters or overseers with their families living there
