STEPHEN WARRINGTON

PROCESSIONER

Stephen Warrington son of John Warrington was born circa 1755.  Stephen died before 28 November 1814.

He married twice.  He married Susanna Kellam circa 1780.  Susanna was born circa 1762.  He married Agnes Smith circa 1794 in Accomack Co., VA.  SEE HOUSEHOLD 1.  Agnes was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1776.  Agnes was the daughter of John Smith and Sarah Parker.  In Stephen Warrington of John's will in 1814 in Accomack Co., VA, Agnes was named as an heir.  It was probated 28 November 1814 (Miles  569).

On 25 August 1820 in Accomack Co., VA John Smith granted a deed of gift to Agnes.  The text reads: "John Smith Sr. of Accomack County and State of Virginia, for the love and affection he had for his daughter Agnes Warrington and the further consideration of the sum of One Dollar, in hand paid by the said Agnes Warrington, did give and grant unto the said Agnes Warrington during her natural life five negro slaves to wit: Caleb, Huldah, Southy, John and Laban.  And at her death to her three children Ann S. Warrington, Smith Warrington and Thomas J. Warrington  (Deed Book 18:237).  Witnesses: George Scarbrough and James Eichelberger Recorded September 25, 1820.  Teste Richard D. Bayly" (237).

In 1814 Agnes was named as heir in her husband's will (Miles 569).

In John Smith's will on 4 November 1823 in Accomack Co., VA, Agnes was named as an heir.  It was probated 26 July 1824 (Miles 494).

Stephen enlisted in in the Navy in Accomack Co., VA, during the Revolutionary War (Nottingham 34).  Although Stephen was not listed in District 11 in 1795, he was chosen as Processioner.  He owned land in District 12, which was the next district north and covered from Tinleys Mill between the forks of Onancock up to the middle road (Processioners Returns).  Stephen was listed as the head of a family in the 1810 census in Accomack Co., VA (Powell 96).  The text reads: "Warrington, Stephen 1 male 0-10, 1 male 45+ 1 female 0-10, 1 female to 16, 1 female to 45. 6 slaves."

Stephen made a will in 1814 in Accomack Co., VA.  It was probated 28 November 1814 (Miles 569).  An abstract of his will reads: "Warrington, Stephen -not dated 1814 - 28 November 1814 - Friends George Scarburgh & John finney Extrs.  To son John K. Warrington the land lying over the road adjoining his shop from the mill up to John Finney's line.  The rest of my land to be sold.  My wife Agnes should have what the law provides.   To daughter Sally Parsons £5.  Balance of the money arising from the sale to my children George Warrington, Samuel Warrington, Peggy Warrington, Smith Warrington, Nancy Warrington, Thomas Warrington.  Witt: Michell Chandler, Levin Laylor & Thomas Phillips Jr.  Prob: Major S. Pitts & George D. Wise."

Stephen Warrington of John and Susanna Kellam had the following children:

2 i. John K. Warrington was born circa 1782.  He married Sarah Hargis on 3 Febrary 1812 in Accomack Co., VA (Turman).  The marriage record reads: "John K. Warrington to Sally Hargis on 3 February 1812. Parker Copes security."

Sarah was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1794.

In Stephen Warrington 's will in 1814 in Accomack Co., VA, John was named as an heir.  It was probated 28 November 1814 (Miles 569).  John K. Warrington resided at Onancock; 5 miles southwest of the courthouse in Accomack Co., VA in 1815 (Ward 17).  John made a will on 23 May 1821 in Accomack Co., VA. It was probated (Miles 568).  An abstract of his will reads:

23 May 1821-30 May 1821 - Friends William Les & Jame Poulson. Extrs. Personal property in care of wife Sally Warrington until 1 January 1823 which can be sold if necessary.  My Negro boy Edmund to be hire out until 1 Janurary 1827 & then to emancipated.  To wife Sally my Negro girl Betsy until I January 1828 & then to be emancipated.  Sell my house & lot in Onancock Town for the benefite of my estate.  All other lands to be rented out until my children arrive to lawful age.  To my three Children Nancy Lovea Custis Kellam, John Thomas & Sally all my personal & real property.  Witt: Edward S. Snead, Rosey Whtie, & Jame Carmine.  Prob: Thomas R. Joynes & John Finney securities.

On 13 August 1832 in Accomack Co., VA, it was ordered that John K. Warrington had been heir to Stephen Warrington (Nottingham 94).  The text reads:

Stephen Warrington, a quarter Master on board the Gallery Accomack during the Reveltionnary War died leaving the Following children: Sally, now the wife of William Parsons, Margaret, now the wife of William Whitehead, John K. Warrington, Samuel Warrington, An S. now Ann S. Briggs, Sinth L. warrington, & homa J. Warrington, all of whom are living except John K. Warrington who ha since the death of the said Stephen Warrington died leaving the following children: Lovea, Sally and John T. Warrington, all of whom are liviing, and the said Sally Parsons, Margaret Whitehead, Samuel Wrrington, Anne S. Briggs, Smith L Warrington Thomas J. Warrington, Lovea, Sally & John T. Warrington are the only heir at law of the said Stephen Warrington dec'd. 13 August 1832.

3 ii. George Warrington was born in Accomack Co., VA, circa 1784.  George died before 17 January 1852 (Nottingham 76).  The text in Soldiers & Sailors reads:

Stephen Warrington who was a reputed to have served in the Revoltionary War, died many year ago leaving the following Children his only heirs at law: George Warrington, Samuel Warrington, Peggy Warrington, Sally Warrington, Nancy Warrington Smith Warrington, and Thomas Warrington. nancy Warrington (now Nancy Smith) and Thomas Warrington are still living.  Sally Warrington married William Parson and is dead. Samuel and George Warrington died intestate leaving no children nor descendants of children.  John K. Warrington died leaving Lovea Warrington, now Lovea Ames, John T. Warrington and Sally Warringtong (now Sally Belote) his only children and heirs at law.  Peggy Whitehead married William Whitehead and died intestate leaiving John Whitehead, William Whitehead and Edward Whitehead her only children and heriis at law. 17 January 1752.

In Stephen Warrington's will in 1814 in Accomack Co., VA, George was named as an heir.  It was probated 28 November 1814 (Miles 569).

4 iii. Samuel Warrington was born in Accomack Co., VA, circa 1787.  Samuel died before 17 January 1852 (Nottingham 76).

On 13 August 1832 in Accomack Co., VA, it was ordered that Samuel Warrington was heir to Stephen Warrington (Nottingham 94).

5 iv. Margaret Warrington was born in Accomack Co., VA, circa 1789.  Margaret died before 17 January 1852 (Nottingham 76).

In Stephen Warrington of John's will in 1814 in Accomack Co., VA, Margaret was named as an heir.  It was probated 28 November 1814 (Miles 569).

On 13 August 1832 in Accomack Co., VA, it was ordered that Margaret Warrington was heir to Sephen Warrington (Nottingham 94).

6 v. Sally Warrington was born in Accomack Co., VA, circa 1792.  Sally died before 17 January 1852 (Nottingham 76).  She married William Parsons circa 1810 in Accomack Co., VA.  William was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1785.

In Stephen Warrington's will in 1814 in Accomack Co., VA, Sally was named as an heir.  It was probated 28 November 1814 (Miles 569).

On 13 August 1832 in Accomack Co., VA it was ordered that Sally Warrington was heir to Stephen Warrington (Nottingham 94).

Stephen Warrington and Agnes Smith had the following children:

7 vi. Smith Warrington was born in Accomack Co., VA, circa 1796. Smith died before 17 January 1852 (Nottingham 76).

In Stephen Warringtons will in 1814 in Accomack Co., VA, Smith was named as an heir.  It was probated 28 November 1814 (Miles 569).

On 13 August 1832 in Accomack Co., VA, it was ordered that Smith Warrington was heir to Stephen Warrington (Nottingham 94).

8 vii. Ann "Nancy" S. Warrington was born in Accomack Co., VA, circa 1799.  In Stephen Warrington's will in 1814 in Accomack Co., VA, Ann was named as an heir.  It was probated 28 November 1814 (Miles 569).

On 13 August 1832 in Accomack Co., VA, it was ordered in court that Ann "Nancy" S. Warrington was heir to Stpehen Warrington (Nottingham 94).

9 viii. Thomas J. Warrington was born in Accomack Co., VA, circa 1801.  In Stephen Warrington's will in 1814 in Accomack Co., VA, Thomas was named as an heir.  It was probated 28 November 1814 (Miles 569).

On 13 August 1832 in Accomack Co., VA, it was recorded in court that Thomas Warrington was heir to Stephen Warrington (Nottingham).  The text reads:
