WILLIAM MISTER

William Mister son of William Mister and Patience Harris was born in Somerset Co, MD circa 1731. He was the second son by that name. William died before 23 February 1807 (Accomack Wills 1806-1809:92).

He married twice. He first married Comfort Evans on 16 October 1749 in Somerset Co, MD. in Conventry Parish (Wright 106). Comfort was born on Smith's Island MD circa 1731. In John Evans' will on 20 November 1752 in Somerset Co, MD, Comfort was named as an heir. It was probated 7 March 1758 (Evans Family EB4:64). John died in Somerset County, leaving a will written 20 November 1852 and probated 7 March 1758 leaving to wife Arrabella as Executrix lands during widowhood then to son John 200 acres of the plantation where the testator lives, son Nathan 100 acres of North End and after his death to grandson Thomas Evans who is under 21 [1852] to Solomon, Richard, Leah and Rachel Evans, Tabitha Parks, Comfort Mister and Ann Crockett. Thomas Tyler executor. Witnessed by Solomon Byrd, Thomas Tyler and David Bird.

William Mister was listed in the household of Patience Harris of Jeremiah in 1748 in Little Annamessex Hundred (Tax Lists 1727, etc., 1748:4). The Tax List reads "Pachance Mister, William Mister."

On 17 June 1762 in Somerset Co, MD, Marmaduke bought all rights to "Pitchcroft" from William Mister and his wife Comfort (Somerset Deeds 24:127). Abraham Mister, Alice his wife, of Dorchester Co. MD and William Mister, Comfort his wife of Accomack Co. VA sold all their rights to Pitchcroft.  See the Mister-to-Mister deed.

1762 June the 17th received of Marmaduke Mister four Shillings Sterling for an aleination fine on the within deed

Comfort moved with William Mister to Accomack County VA after 17 June 1762 (Families of Smith's Island 33).

On 30 September 1765 William bought 200 acres from William Crowson (Accomack Deeds 1757-1770 Part II:654-655).  (See household 5 in Procession District 11 for St. George's Parish for more on William Crowson.)  See also the Crowson-to-Mister deed.

On 16 March, 1767, in Accomack Co., VA, William was assigned to Pew no.15 in St. St. George's Church (Vestry Book 19).

He married Emiline before 1785. Emiline was born circa 1750. On 30 August 1785 in Accomack Co., VA,  his son William received 50 acres of land [Chesconnessex] from him and his wife Emiline (Accomack Deeds 6 1783-1788:244). The land was located "bounded as follows to wit beginning at a marked gum from thence North East up to Wises line thence Northerly Westerly and Southerly as the ditch bank goes and from thence to the first bounder." He was also given the privilege of planting a potato patch, garden and orchards. See the deed from William Mister, Sr., to William Mister, Jr. 

William registered to pay taxes on the 1787 Personal Property Tax "B" in Accomack Co., VA. William Myster Sr. was charged with the tax for 1 male 16 or over 2 horses and 17 cattle (Yantis-Schreiner 97).

In the 1796 Procession taken on 15 February 1796 the lines between Johannis Wise and William Mister were marked (Processioners Returns 11).

William was listed as the head of a family on the 1800 Census in Accomack Co., VA (1800, 1810, 1820 Census 31): William Mister senior, 1 male 45+, 1 female 45+.

William made a will on 29 June 1804 in Accomack Co., VA. It was probated 23 February 1807 (Accomack Wills 1806-1809 92).  See the will of William Mister.

 

William Mister and Comfort Evans had the following children:

2 i. William Mister was born circa 1750 William died before 29 November 1824 (Accomack Wills 1824-1825 271).

William registered to pay taxes on the 1787 Personal Tax List "B" in Accomack Co., VA. Myster, William Jr. was charged with tax free. He had 7 cattle (Yantis-Schreiner 97).

William Myster witnessed the procession taken on 15 February 1796 (Processioners Returns 11).  The text reads: Jno Wise, Richd Parker, Mickl Bonewell, John West, William Myster Junr, Johas Wise, Tully Wise & Geo. Poulson present.

William was listed as the head of a family on the 1800 Census in Accomack Co., VA (1800, 1810, 1820 Census 31): William Mister Junior, 1 male 10-16, 3 males 16-26, 1 male 26-45, 1 female 10-16, 1 female 45+.

In his father William Mister’s will on 29 June 1804 in Accomack Co., VA, William was named as an heir. It was probated 23 February 1807 (Accomack Wills 1806-1809 92).

William was listed as the head of a family in the 1810 Census in Accomack Co., VA (1800, 1810, 1820 Census 31): William Mister; 2 males 0-10, 1 male 45+, 1 female to 45, 1 female 45+.

On the 1812 Procession taken 16 December 1811 the lines between Solomon Wise & William Mister. Lines between William & Benjamin Mister. Lines between Major Wise & William Mister were taken (Processioners Returns 167).

William made a will on 30 August 1811 in Accomack Co., VA. It was probated on 29 November 1824 (Accomack Wills 1824-1825 271).  See the will of William Mister.

3 ii. Benjamin Mister was born on Smith's Island MD circa 1753. Benjamin died before 30 August 1824 (Accomack Wills 1824-1825 60). In 1781 in Accomack Co., VA, Benjamin Mister was by cash paid 60.00.0 (Vestry Book 100). Benjamin Mister was paid 440.00.0 for keeping Polly-Molly Chambers till 12th August (78). Benjamin Mister was paid £04.10.0 for keeping Polly-Molly Chambers to the 12th August (81). Benjamin Mister was paid 700 lbs tobacco for keeping Polly-Molly Chambers (85). Benjamin Mister was paid £400 for keeping Polly-Molly Chambers Mary Chambers Benjamin Mister was paid 1000 for keeping Polly-Molly Chambers [Mary Chambers child] (107). Benjamin Mister was paid £1080 for keeping Polly-Molly Chambers (91). Benjamin Mister was paid £400.00.0 for keeping Polly-Molly Chambers till 12th August (111).

Benjamin registered to pay taxes on 1787 in Accomack Co., VA. Mister, Benjamin was charged with the tax for 3 head of cattle. (Yantis-Schreiner 97)

Benjamin was listed as the head of a family on the 1800 Census in Accomack Co., VA (1800 1810 1820 Census 31): Benjamin Mister 1 male 10-16, 1 male 16-26, 1 male 45+, 2 females 16-26, 1 female 45+. Somerset not listed??

Benjamin was listed as the head of a family in the 1810 Census in Accomack Co., VA (1800, 1810, 1820 Census 82): Benjamin Mister: 1 male 0-10, 1 male 45+, 1 female 45+. Benjamin was listed as the head of a family on the 1820 Census in Accomack Co., VA (141). Benjamin Mister: 1 male 10-16, 1 male 16-26, 1 male 26-45, 1 male 45+, 1 female 0-10, 1 female 16-26, 1 female 26 to 45, 1 female 45+.

On the 1812 Procession taken 16 December 1811 the lines between Between Solomon Wise & Major John Wise & Benjamin Mister and between Solo Wise & Benjamin Mister. (Processioners Returns 167).

On the 1816 Procession taken on 11 March 1816 the lines between Solomon Wise & Benjamin Mister were walked. John J. Wise, Levin Parker, George C. Revell, McKeil Bonwell were present. (Processioners Returns 205).

Benjamin made a will on 3 April 1823 in Accomack Co., VA. It was probated (Accomack Wills 1824-1825 60).  His estate was to be equally divided between James F. Mister, George Sharply and Famey Sharod daughter of Thomas Sharod. See the will of Benjamin Mister

4 iii. Thomas Mister was born on Smith's Island MD circa 1757. In William Mister 2nd 's will on 29 June 1804 in Accomack Co., VA, Thomas was named as an heir. It was probated 23 February 1807 (Accomack Wills 1806-1809 92)

5 iv. John Mister was born circa 1760. He married circa 1785. Her name is unknown.  John registered to pay taxes on 1787 in Accomack Co., VA.   John was listed as the head of a family on the 1800 Census in Accomack Co., VA (1800, 1810, 1820 Census 31). The census reads: John Mister 1 male 0-10, 1 male 26-45, 1 female 0-10, 1 female 10-16, 1 female 26-45.

In William Mister's will on 29 June 1804 in Accomack Co., VA, John was named as an heir. It was probated 23 February 1807 (Accomack Wills 1806-1809 92).

6 v. Tabitha Mister was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1763. She married William Read about 21 January 1784 in Accomack Co., VA (Turman:233). William was born circa 1763.

+ 7 vi. Isaac Mister was born circa 17717. He died before 28 September 1840 (Accomack Wills 1828-1846 364).  He married Nancy. Her surname is unknown. Nancy, was born circa 1774. Isaac was listed as the head of a family on the 1800 Census in Accomack Co., VA (1800, 1810, 1820 Census 31). Isaac Mister, 1 male 26-45, 1 female 26-45.

In his father William Mister’s will on 29 June 1804 in Accomack Co., VA, Isaac was named as an heir. It was probated 23 February 1807 (Accomack Wills 1806-1809 92).

Isaac was listed as the head of a family in the 1810 Census in Accomack Co., VA (1800, 1810, 1820 Census 82): Isaac Mister: 1 male 0-10, 1male to 16, 1 male to 45, 1 female 0-10, 1 female to 26.

In William Mister 's will, Isaac was named by William to handle his estate on 30 August 1811 in Accomack Co., VA. The will was probated on 29 November 1824 (Accomack Wills 1824-1825 271).

Isaac was listed as the head of a family on the 1820 Census in Accomack Co., VA (1800, 1810, 1820 Census 141).

Isaac was listed as the head of a family on the 1830 Census in Accomack Co., VA (1830 Census 66). Isaac Mister: 1 male 20-30, 1 male 60-70, 1 female 15-20, 1 female 20-30, 1 female 70-80.

Isaac made a will in 1839 in Accomack Co., VA. It was probated 28 September 1840 (Accomack Wills 1828-1846 364).  See the will of Isaac Mister.

Isaac was listed as the head of a family on the 1840 Census in Accomack Co., VA (1840 Census70):  Isaac Mister: 1 male 50-70, 1 female 5-10, 1 female 20-30, 1 female 30-40.

Isaac made a codicil to his will on 7 September 1840 in Accomack Co., VA. It was probated 28 September 1840 (Accomack Wills 1828-1846 364).  It reads:

1840 September the 7th upon a revision of my will this day I find that by accident the month and day of the month upon which it was made are left out therefore now in the presence of the subcribing witnesses i do sign seal and publish and declare it, the subjoined paper as and for my last will and testament and do hereby constitute and appoint John C. Wise Executor and Trustee to the same instead of my daughter Susan decd who was appointed Executrix and Trustee thereto.

Ayres witnesses therto and ordered to be recorded and a codicil to said will was proved by the oaths of John Parker, George Nelson and John H. Custis witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded - And on the mootion of John C. Wise the executor named in said codicil taking oath and giving bond according to law in the penalty of $20,000 with John E. Finney and Thomas R. Joynes securities thereto certificate is granted him for obtaining a probate thereof in due form.
