Caleb Belote
Caleb Belote was born circa 1769. Caleb died before 28 Febuary 1825 (Miles & Miles Wills: 54). He was the son of Hancock Belote
and his first wife. He married Euphamy Edwards on 26 August 1805 in
Accomack Co., VA (Turman Marriages: 24). Euphemy was born circa 1783.
The marriage record reads: Caleb Belote to Euphamy Edwards on 26 August
1805. Zorobabel Edwards security. She was the daughter of John and
Elizabeth Edwards (Nottingham : 336). Euphamy was named as heir in the
will of her father, John Edwards. (336). An abstract of his will reads:EDWARDS,
JOHN - 31 May 1781 - 27 Nov. 1782 - To wife Betty Edwards 50 acres for
life then to my son Zorobable Edwards. Grandaughter Molly Edwards. Son
in law Isaac Lewis. Son in law Richard Lewis. Son in law William Lewis.
Son in law Thomas Teackle Taylor. 5 youngest children William, Labin,
John, Abel & Famey Edwards residual legatees. Son Zorobable Edwards
Exr. Witt: Littleton Lurton, Mary Rodgers, Fanney Tailor. In order of
probate: Elizabeth Lewis, widow of the testator relinquished her right
& Isaac Lewis qualified.
In
September 1789 her orphan's account for 1784 was recorded by her
guardian and brother Babel [Zerobabel] Edwards. (Walczyk Orphans
1787-1793: 35).
Caleb is listed in the 1810 census in St. George
Parish on page 6 (Powell 1800, 1810, 1820: 56). The text reads: BELOTE,
CALEB - 1 male 0-10, 1 male to 45, 1 female 0-10, 1 female 2 females to
26. Caleb appears on the Payroll List of Captain Levin S. Joynes'
Company of the Second Regiment of Virginia Militia as serving 1 month
12 days (Militia in the War of 1812 Vol I: 216).
In the 1816
Procession the lands of Caleb Belote were processioned and the
boundaries renewed (Walczyk processioners: 204). The text reads: Lines
between Thos Phillips & Caleb Belote. Lines between Thos Phillips
& Caleb Belote. Lines between Parker East & Caleb Belote. Lines
between Parker East & Caleb Belote.
Caleb is listed in the
1820 census in St. George Parish on page 38A (Powell 1800, 1810, 1820:
114). The Text reads: 2 males 0-10, 2 males 10-16, 1 male 45+, 1 female
10-16, 1 female 26-45.
Caleb Belote gave security for the will of James Warington Belote on 25 December 1820 (Miles & Miles Wills: 55).
On
28 Febuary 1825 the estate of Caleb Belote was administered to Joseph
Gunter (Miles & Miles Wills: 54). Letters of Administration were
granted to Joseph Gunter and Charles Belote. Nathaniel Badger and
Thomas R. Joynes securities. (54).
Caleb Belote and Euphamy Edwards had the following child:1.
Henrietta "Henny" Belote was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1810. She
married George White on 14 January 1828 in Accomack Co., VA (Turman
Marriages: 320). The Marriage record reads: George White to Henny
Belote orphan of Caleb on 26 May 1828. Joseph Gunter security. George
was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1803. He was the son of William
White (Nottingham, Land Causes: 142, 143) and the grandson of Levin White.
