Francis Boggs
Francis Boggs was born in Accomack Co., VA, circa 1772. He was the son of Francis Boggs and Ruth Parker. Francis died before 29 September 1823 (Will Book 1823-1824). He married twice. He married Agnes Crowson on 4 March 1802 in Accomack Co., VA (Turman 34). Agnes was born in Accomack Co., VA, circa 1777. Agnes was the daughter of William Crowson and Bridget Parker. Agnes died before 20 June 1811. On this date Francis Boggs married Elizabeth Underhill (Turman 34).

In his father Francis Boggs' will, Francis was named as heir and to handle his estate on 9 September 1811 in Accomack Co., VA. (Miles & Miles, Wills, p. 76). An abstract of his will reads:
Boggs, Francis, 9 September 1811 / 30 March 1813. Wife Ruth Boggs & son Francis Extr. To wife Ruth Boggs my land whereon I now live with my marsh which I hold in partnership with my brother John Boggs & all my personal estate & at her death to son Francis Boggs. To son Francis ... If Daughter Comfort should be a widow, then she should have a home with my son Francis. To daughter Comfort my Negro boy George provided she does not move him out of Accomack County & at her death to daughters Ruth & Esther, but if she tries to move him out of Accomack County, then he is to go immediately to Ruth & Esther. To grandson Joseph Boggs Taylor... To daughter Ruth Phillips ... To daughter Esther Taylor the use of my Negro woman Nell, girl Hannah & my man Isaac, but if she should attempt to sell them, then to my other children. Remainder to my daughters Comfort Smith, Ruth Phillips & Esther Taylor. Witt: John Finney & William H. Custis. Probate: Partly proved by William H. Custis & fully proved by John Finney with George Scarburgh & John Arlington securities.
Francis Boggs served as Quarter Master Sergeant in the Virginia Militia in the War of 1812. He appears on the Payroll List Captain John G. Joynes Company of the 2nd. Regt. VA Militia - 1813-1814 and served 2 months 21 days between 1813 and 1814.

Francis was named by his mother Ruth ans heir and to handle her estate on 12 August 1815 in Accomack Co., VA. The will was probated 28 August 1815 (Miles 77). An abstract of her will reads:
Boggs, Ruth, 12 August 1815 / 28 August 1815 Son Francis Boggs Extr. To granddaughter Ann Boggs Taylor & granddaughter Ruth Parker Taylor & grandson Joseph Boggs Taylor my Negro girl Milly. To granddaughter Ruth Parker Taylor & grandson Joseph Boggs Taylor 1/3 of the money that may arise from Francis Boggs' dec'd estate since his death for the use of schooling. Witt: William H. Custis & Rachel Moore. Probate Arthur Turlington & Mitchell Chandler.
Francis made a will on 1 March 1820 in Accomack Co., VA. It was probated 29 September 1823 (Will Book 1823-1824). A Transcription reads:
In the name of Our Lord God Amen, I Francis Boggs do make this my last will and testament in manner and form following: Imprimus I lend unto my beloved wife Betsy the whole of my land and marsh together with all my personal Estate until the first day of January eighteen hundred and thirty four provided she make no charge against my children in bringing them up, giving them common education is what I desire or if she chooses to charge let everything be valued. Item: I give unto my son Joseph Parker Boggs all the land and marsh that my father Francis Boggs gave me excepting a privilege for my son John Crowson Boggs stock in marsh. Item: I give to my son John C. Boggs the fifty acres of land which I bought of N. Burrell and others. Item: On the first day of January eighteen hundred and thirty four to be divided among my wife and children in such sort that my wife Betsy have one ninth and my son Joseph have one fifteenth, my son John have one twentieth and after the above shares then the balance to be equally divided among the rest of my children namely Mary Ann Boggs, Susannah Boggs, Leah Makemie Boggs, Thomas Douglas Boggs, Eliza Evins Boggs, Margaret Williams Boggs, and Sally Boggs. Item: If my son Joseph should die without disposing of his part of land at lawful age in that case I give his part to my son John and his part to Thomas D. Boggs or if John C. Boggs should die before disposing of his part at lawful age then I give his fifty acres unto my son Thomas D. Boggs and in case of Joseph and John's death without lawful issue then it is my desire for Thomas D. Boggs to have the piece first mentioned to Joseph P. Boggs and the fifty acres mentioned to John C. Boggs to be sold and divided among my daughters. Item: I also appoint my friend and brother Thomas Underhill the executor of this my last will and testament the first day of March 1820.
Francis Boggs and Agnes Crowson had the following children:

i. Joseph Parker Boggs was born in Accomack Co., VA on 23 December 1802 (Mihalyka, Graven, p 30). Joseph died on 23 September 1873. He married Susan E. Underhill about 14 February 1832 in Accomack Co., VA (Turman Marriages, p 34). Susan was born in Accomack Co., VA on 4 December 1810 (Mihalyka, Jean, Graven, 30). Susan was the daughter of Thomas Underhill Captain and Nancy, Mrs. Thomas Underhill. Susan died on 13 July 1881 (30).

In Francis Boggs' will on 1 March 1820 in Accomack Co., VA, Joseph was named as an heir. It was probated 29 September 1823 (Accomack County, Will Book, 1823-1824).

Joseph Parker Boggs was listed as Head of Household 114 in the 1850 census (Scherzinger, Census, p. 66). An Abstract of the census reads: Joseph P. Boggs, 47, Susan Boggs 31, Francis Boggs, 17, John W. Boggs 11, James Boggs 9, Sally Boggs 7, Emily Boggs 5, Luther Boggs 3, Colon Boggs 1 Mary Boggs 45.

Joseph Parker Boggs and Susan E. Underhill had the following children; Francis Thomas Boggs, born 30 November 1832 (Mihalyka, Graven, p 29); John William Boggs, born circa 1835; Margaret Ann Boggs, born 4 February 1837 (30); Joseph Crowson Boggs, 20 December 1838(30); James Edward Boggs, born circa 1841; Sally Ann Boggs, born of 20 December 1842 (30); Emily Susann Boggs, born 3 November 1844 (91). Luther Nottingham Boggs, born 4 October 1848 (30); Calvin Savage Boggs, born 4 May 1848 (29).

ii. Mary A. Boggs was born in Accomack Co., VA on 29 October 1804 (Mihalyka, Graven, p 31). Mary died on 12 June 1886 (31). In Francis Boggs' will on 1 March 1820 in Accomack Co., VA, Mary was named as an heir. It was probated 29 September 1823 (Accomack County, Will Book, 1823-1824). Mary Boggs was listed in the 1850 census in Household 114(Scherzinger, Census p. 66).

iii. John Crowson Boggs was born circa 1806. In Francis Boggs' will on 1 March 1820 in Accomack Co., VA, John was named as an heir. It was probated 29 September 1823 (Accomack County, Will Book, 1823-1824).

iv. Susannah Boggs was born circa 1808. In Francis Boggs' will on 1 March 1820 in Accomack Co., VA, Susannah was named as an heir. It was probated 29 September 1823 (Accomack County, Will Book, 1823-1824).

v. Leah M. Boggs was born in Accomack Co., VA on 16 July 1810 (Mihalyka, Graven, p 30). Leah died 16 July 1886 (30). She married John Riley Boggs of Elijah about 10 June 1833 in Accomack Co., VA. a bond was recorded (Turman Marriages, p 34). John was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1812. John was the son of Elijah Boggs of John and Ann Riley. Circa 1849 John and Leah had Agnes Boggs of John in Accomack Co., VA. Circa 1850 John and Leah had Leah S. Boggs of John in Accomack Co., VA. Circa 1852 John and Leah had Margaret H. Boggs of John in Accomack Co., VA.

In Francis Boggs' will on 1 March 1820 in Accomack Co., VA, Leah was named as an heir. It was probated 29 September 1823 (Accomack County, Will Book, 1823-1824).

John Riley Boggs was listed as Head of Household 746 Family 828 in the 1860 census (Crowson & Hite, Census, p. 262, 263). An abstract of the census reads: John R. Boggs 48, Leah M. Boggs 49, John L. Boggs 23, Elijah Boggs 18, Mary Boggs 17, Louis Boggs 14, Agnes Boggs 11, Leah Boggs, 10, Margaret H. Boggs, 8.

Francis Boggs and Elizabeth D. Underhill had the following children:

vi. Thomas D. Boggs was born in Accomack Co., VA on 8 March 1812 (Mihalyka, Graven, p 30). Thomas died on 9 March 1869 (30).. He married Susan E. Chandler on 20 February 1844 in Accomack Co., VA (Turman Marriages, p 34). Susan was born in Accomack Co., VA on 10 June 1819 (Mihalyka, Graven, p 30). Susan was the daughter of William D. Chandler and Margaret Wise.

In Francis Boggs' will on 1 March 1820 in Accomack Co., VA, Thomas was named as an heir. It was probated 29 September 1823 (Accomack County, Will Book, 1823-1824).

Thomas was listed as the head of a family in Household 718 Family 797 on the 1860 Census in Accomack Co., VA. An abstract of the census reads "Thomas D. Boggs 47, farmer, Susan A. 40, George D. 14, William F. 12, Littleton H. 9, Catherine 7, Thomas T. 5, Mary E. 1 (Crowson & Hite p. 259).

vii. Eliza Elvina Boggs was born in Accomack Co., VA on 8 October 1813 (Mihalyka, Graven, p 231). Eliza died on 20 November 1880. She was buried in the Rodgers - Poulson Plot, NW of Onancock VA (Mihalyka, Graven, p 231). She married John K. Rodgers about 2 January 1845 in Accomack Co., VA (Turman Marriages p. 239). John was born in Accomack Co., VA on 22 January 1823 (Mihalyka, Graven, p 231). John was the son of William W. Rodgers and Rachel Boggs (Walczyk, Deaths p. 132) . John died on 10 April 1879 (132; Mihalyka, Graven, p 231). The text reads: Rogers, John K., W/m, 10 Apr 1879, St. Geo. P., paralysis, 55yr c/o Wm. & Rachel, b. Acc, farmer, h/o Eliza. Rogers, John T., son g/info.

In Francis Boggs' will on 1 March 1820 in Accomack Co., VA, Eliza was named as an heir. It was probated 29 September 1823 (Accomack County, Will Book, 1823-1824). Conflicting evidence states that Eliza was born in 1825 in Accomack Co., VA (Accomack County Deaths, 1853-1896).

John was listed as the head of a family on the 1860 Census in Accomack Co., VA. An abstract reads John K. Mears 45, Eliza 37, William F. 12, John 10, Margaret 9, Margaret Poulson 22 seamstress, John Sunket, Black farm laborer 20.

viii. Margaret Williams Boggs was born in Accomack Co., VA circa 1815. She died on 30 September 1886 Walczyk Deaths. P. The death register reads: Waters, Marg., W/f, 31 Sep 1886, St. Geo. P., unk., 70yr c/o Boggs, Francis & Eliz., b. Acc, w/o Wm. C. Husband g/info.

In Francis Boggs' will on 1 March 1820 in Accomack Co., VA, Margaret was named as an heir. It was probated 29 September 1823 (Accomack County, Will Book, 1823-1824).

ix. Sarah Boggs was born in Accomack Co., VA on 2 April 1818. Sarah died on 3 October 1841(Mihalyka Graven, p. 58). In Francis Boggs' will on 1 March 1820 in Accomack Co., VA, Sarah was named as an heir. It was probated 29 September 1823 (Accomack County, Will Book, 1823-1824).
