In the name of God amen, I William Matthews Senior, of the County of Accomack and state of Virginia being at this time sick & week in body but sound in mine & Memore do make and constitute this my last will and testament in manner and form following vizt.
Imprimus, I lend unto my loving wife Elizth Matthews during her natural life the use of my plantation, I also give her all the money that she has in her possession
Item I give unto my daughter Rachel Matthews one cow & calf her own choice, one bed and furniture the third choice, one oval walnut, and after the death of my wife Elizth Matthews, my chest of drawers.
Item I give unto my daughter Rebeckah Dickerson five Shillings, also to my daughter Elizth Sterling, also to my daughter Ann Taylor five Shillings, also to my daugther Esther Gaskins five Shillings
Item I give unto my Son Nehemiah Matthews the sum of Fifty pounds to be made up out of my Estate.
Item I give my cooper tools to be equally divided between my two sons John & Wm Matthews.
Item I give unto my son William Matthews the lower part or south part of my plantation beginning at a white Oak on Caleb Massey line & runing westerardly by the bars at the road over along by a piece of new ground to a gum on the line of the land of John Kers heirs, to him and his heirs for ever upon condition that he pay unto my son Washburn Matthews the sum of one hundred pounds, and that he shall have the priviledge of geting the timber out of the swamp during my wifes life time.
Item I give the other part of my land unto my son John Matthews his heirs and assigns for ever.
Item I give unto my son Elias Matthews my one half of the still also my one half of the saw. The rest of my estate not mentioned, I lend unto my loving wife, during her natural life afterward to be equally divided between my children to wit, Elias Matthews, Rachel Matthews, & Catherine Statten I hereby appoint my son William Matthews executor of this my last will and testament In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand & Seal this 25th day Augt 1807

At a District Court held at Accomack courthouse October 14th 1809
this last will and Testament of William Matthews deceased was proven by the oaths of Samuel Downing & Evans Matthews witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded And on the Motion of William Matthews the executor therein named taking the oath and giving bond according to Law with Samuel Downing and Jno Henderson securities thereto in the penalty of three thousand dollars, Certificate is granted him for obtaining a probate thereof in due form The said Samuel having previously declared on oath that he believed his property would Amount after paying his debts to said sun of three thousand Dollars
