In the names of God Amen knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die have disposing of my goods in the following manner to wit after paying my just debts I give to my loving wife Sarah Grinalds my white Mare and Colt and riding Carriage also I give her my Mahogany Desk and Bedsted her choice of by Beds and furniture to it and sute of Curtains I give to my Brother Elijah Grinalds my Silver Watch and my Grey Horse, I give to my Son in law Tommy Abbott all my Young Negroes until they arrive at the age of twenty one and then to be free Viz my Negro boy Pomfrey five years I also give my Negro boy Joshey eight years & my Negro Girl Betty fifteen years & my Negro Boy Isreal eighteen years ans also one that my woman is now pregnant with twenty one years if it lives and in case Tommy Abbott should dye before he is possessed with the above Negroes in that case I give them to my Wife in the same manner until they arrive at lawful age and then to be free I give my wife Sarah Grinalds my Negro Woman called Grace that came by her during her life and then to be free I also give my wife my Negro Woman called Tamer two years and then to be free. I give to John Grinalds my Earling Coalt two Ewes & Lambs & two year old hogs. I give to Thomas Grinalds my brindle Stears that pastured at Colo Poulsons & six sliver Tea Spoons marked T. G. I give to my nephew William Grinalds all my wearing apparel. I give to my Nephew Southy Grinalds my Gun powder horn & shot bag my large Case & bottles & Silver Soup Laydle the latter to be delivered him at the death of my wife & six silver Tea Spoons marked T. S. G. delivered at the same time I give to Tommy Abbott my old horse called Moses two Plows & two harrows all my Caske & Tub & timber and the bed and bedstead belonging to his room with all the appurtenances belonging to it I also give my Wife my waine & her choice of oxen and ten head the first choice Sheep & Six the first choice hogs --- all the articles above mentioned given to my to my wife I wish her to dispose of as she pleases & all the Stock that falls to her part at the division which if I am gone I wish to take place at the end of the year 1798. I now give to my wife all my household & kitchen furniture not before mentioned during life or marriage then to my Brother Elijah Grinalds I also wish the Stock not given to be equally divided between my wife and Mother Catharine Grinalds, my Stack of Corn at James J. Abbott I wish delivered my my Executor when called for 200 Bushels I expect is owing and the rest on freight In Testimony whereof I have set my hand & fixed my Seal this twentieth day of April one thousand Seven hundred and ninety eight

At a District Court held at Accomack Courthouse the 20th day of October 1798

This said last Will & testament of Southy Grinalds decd was offered for proof by the Executor in said Will mentioned and it appearing by the Oaths of John Teackle Senr and Charles Stockly that the Will was wholly written by the Testator himself, the said Will is ordered to be recorded
